Call for teams and/or individual scientists Paris Public Hospitals (Assistance Publique - Hôpitaux de Paris (AP-HP)), Inserm (French National Institute of Health and Medical Research), Paris-Descartes University and Fondation Alain Carpentier have created a new Research Center located at the Georges Pompidou European Hospital (HEGP – 56 rue Leblanc – 75015 Paris - France), headed by Alain Tedgui, Inserm Research Director. The 4 000 m2 (44,000 sq ft) Research Center consists of 18 laboratory units of 50 m2 (540 sq ft) each, and shared core facilities that include: conventional and transgenic animal facilities, a large animal surgery unit, as well as “omics”, flow cytometry, confocal and small animal imaging platforms. Seven research teams were selected following a first call in 2007. They will integrate the Center in September 2008. A second call for candidates is now being launched to recruit 3-4 additional teams. Individual scientists can also apply. The aims of the Center are: 1/ to create an internationally recognized center for excellence in cardiovascular sciences, bringing together world leading groups in this field; 2/ to establish an optimal environment with cutting-edge technology to facilitate and to enhance basic and disease-oriented research; and 3/ to accelerate the transition of this research into clinical applications and foster bidirectional research by establishing a synergistic collaborative environment between the research laboratories and the biological and clinical departments of the HEGP. Teams should focus primarily, but not necessarily exclusively, on cardiovascular research. The organization of the Center is based on modular laboratories to allow evolution of the research units. The present call is for candidate research teams and/or individual scientists. They will be selected by an international jury, and will have to apply for approval by the University and Inserm. Applications should include: - Team composition (including senior scientists, junior faculty, technicians, fellows and students) - CV of the team leader - Research project (max 10 pages) - List of publications - Laboratory space requested The application deadline is April 15th 2008. Teams will be selected beginning June 2008, and successful candidates will have to apply for Inserm-University approval (applications to be submitted at AERES before July 1st). In addition to recurrent financial support from Inserm-University structures, selected candidates will have access to all Inserm granting programs (http://www.inserm.fr/fr/actualites/appeloffre/index.jsp), including the “Avenir” program, temporary contracts for young scientists (CDD), Interface contracts, the “Joint Inserm” program, as well as the Chairs of Excellency program and the ANR program from the French Research Minister, and the European Union Mobility Program (Marie Curie, ERC). Application Deadline: April 15, 2008 Applications should be sent to: Philippe Coudol :
